New York Enacts the Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act

On July 25, 2019, New York’s Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act (“SHIELD Act”) was signed into law. The SHIELD Act amends the New York statute covering notification requirements for unauthorized acquisitions of private information and adds new requirements for businesses and persons that own or license private information of a New York resident to comply with reasonable data security protections.
